About Us
WhosTheRef.com provides a platform that works for all sports and any scale. We strive to ensure that our smallest customers, with around 40 members, can benefit from the same functionality as our largest customers with 200,000 + users.
The company was founded in 2009 by rugby referee Mark Brown. His own officiating society were wanting to move away from spreadsheets and appointments notified by post or manual email. There was clear demand for an efficient online appointing system.
Commercialisation
At the end of 2009 Scottish Rugby were looking for replacement to their existing supplier with the chosen system needing to be fully operational by January 2010. Mark visited Murrayfield to demonstrate the flexibility of the package and how it could be rapidly adapted to suit the needs of any customer, an approach that we maintain to this day.
With the first commercial customer successfully onboarded the momentum built very quickly. We were able to demonstrate that the platform can be adapted to any sport which led to our sister website, WhosTheUmpire.com, being tested by various cricket umpire associations. This eventually led to another national contract, this time with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) based at Lords, in London.
The business now has multi-year contracts with multiple governing bodies including England Rugby and England Hockey. Our customer base is now worldwide with users located around the world including New Zealand, Middle East, South Africa, USA, and throughout Europe.
Listening to our users and acting responsively to your feedback has allowed us to stay ahead of demands for growth. Our customers are part of a community that we value above all else: we strive to ensure that every user’s experience with our platform and every new feature we add is driven by what our clients need most.
